Course Outline
Our Autumn Term Programme has been designed as the final and most important stage of preparation for children sitting 7+ school assessments during this academic year. Building on the foundations established over previous terms, this course focuses on refining exam technique, strengthening confidence and ensuring pupils are equipped to perform at their very best under assessment conditions.
Throughout the term, children will revisit, consolidate and apply all key areas assessed within competitive 7+ entrance examinations, including:
• English comprehension
• Creative writing
• Spelling and dictation
• Mathematics
• Verbal reasoning
• Non-verbal reasoning
• Listening and following instructions
• Group task skills
A significant focus will be placed on exam readiness and timed practice, helping pupils develop the pace, accuracy and resilience required for formal assessments. Children will learn how to approach different question types strategically, manage time effectively and build the confidence to work independently under pressure.
Alongside academic preparation, we continue to place great importance on developing confidence, independent thinking and a positive mindset through carefully structured small-group teaching. Our supportive environment ensures pupils are appropriately challenged while maintaining an enjoyable and encouraging learning experience.
By the end of the programme, children will have completed extensive exam-style practice and will approach assessment season feeling calm, prepared and confident in their abilities. This term provides the final refinement before examinations begin, giving every child the opportunity to demonstrate their full potential.
The programme is planned by Helene Jones and Sarah Mercer and taught by Sarah Mercer alongside an assistant. Helene and Sarah are highly experienced educators with an in-depth understanding of the London day school admissions process and a strong track record of preparing children successfully for entry to leading schools.
