This is the first of three carefully structured ten-week courses designed to prepare children for 7+ assessments at some of London's most competitive schools in the autumn.
Children joining the course will have completed their first term of Year 1 and should have a secure understanding of basic phonics, early reading and fundamental maths skills.
The Spring Term course provides a fun and engaging introduction to the more complex skills required at 7+. Through games, puzzles, practical challenges, lively discussions and collaborative activities, children will begin exploring verbal, non-verbal and spatial reasoning in a way that feels exciting and accessible.
They will learn to spot patterns, solve codes, follow sequences, make connections, manipulate shapes, use logic and explain why they have reached an answer. Although these are complicated areas of learning, they will be introduced gradually and playfully, encouraging children to experiment, take risks and enjoy the satisfaction of solving a difficult problem.
The complete programme develops across three stages:
  • Spring Term: A fun introduction to verbal, non-verbal and spatial reasoning.
  • Summer Term: Applying these developing skills to more formal, assessment-style questions.
  • Autumn Term: Alongside Engish and Maths we build exam technique, independence, confidence and test preparedness.
The course is best suited to confident learners with active, curious minds who enjoy being challenged and thinking beyond the obvious. Alongside academic development, children will strengthen their concentration, resilience, flexible thinking and willingness to tackle unfamiliar problems; all essential qualities for success in the demanding 7+ assessments.
